On a recent trip back to Winnipeg, I saw one of the most beautiful girls I have ever seen. She wasn’t doing anything extraordinary but we were shopping and I’ve realized that it’s way more fun to shop looking pretty, then looking like you just fished out what was lying at the bottom of the clothes hamper.
Anyway, she was stunning. She was wearing a white button down blouse with navy high waisted pants that were ankle length. On her feet, heels (maybe a nude colour) and on her head, a beautiful navy scarf that was wrapped in a way that made me want to be her hair.
Actually, I just really wanted to be her and in that outfit!
We were a shopping entourage that day and so we did what any entourage would do! We stared! For awhile and then when I just couldn’t stand it anymore, I asked her about her scarf wrap. I am all about giving another woman a much deserved compliment. Try it ... it’s fun and honestly, who doesn’t love getting told how great they look!
This girl did not look like she was meant to be shopping in Winnipeg or any other Canadian city, she had New York written all over her and she herself, in her very stylish way, knew it.
Now, she claimed to be having a horrible hair day but I say, no way! She was meant to wear that scarf on that day and with that outfit. She was adorable and she was owning it. The funny thing is that when I asked her about her hair, we just happened to be leaning up against an assortment of patterned scarves in all shapes and sizes! Lovely. Timing couldn’t have been better.
She gave me a quick demo and I was hooked. I even bought a new scarf to try it out on my own.
Actually, I picked up a few new scarves in Winnipeg and was loving the instant pick up they gave my outfits. That day at the mall, I ended up picking up one more scarf (from a different store) and this one, I was willing to just go for it and tie it around my head. I was on holiday and for some reasons, it just feels ok to try something new and bold when you are far from home.
My outfit was simply a pair of coral jeans and a blue and white striped sweater with some booties. I was enjoying my look (even the scarf girl liked my outfit since she complimented me right back) but I wanted to own the scarf look. I was dying to try it but I was feeling intimidated. The second scarf I purchased was a smaller version from the scarf family and I tied it more like pirate style. I was loving the freedom and individuality it was bringing me as we finished up our afternoon shopping affair.
Fashion trends are funny things. I was totally loving the look and feeling like it took some extra confidence on my part to pull off the scarf that afternoon. I did it and I was enjoying it. However, when I got home that afternoon, my husband asked how shopping was but couldn’t resist making light of my scarf and the pirate effect it was having!
I’m still trying to wrap my head around it but I do know that I’m not done with it. If the pretty girl from Winnipeg can rock it, so can I and I’m up for the challenge. Who says pirates can’t be cute?!?! AAARRRRGGH!
If you want to be a pirate too or just look super cute in jeans and a tshirt with a fun printed scarf, come by the store. We just received some beauties and lots of colours.
