A Little Basic Goes A Long Way

I've been a stay-at-home mom for seven years with two really amazing kids. From crafts to play groups to adventures at the park and playing pretend, I was a mom-on-the-go and fully dedicated to running, jumping and enjoying every second with them. In doing all that, my sense of fashion went to the wayside and my basics became a very large (and expensive) collection of lulu lemon based attire. I hit it hard and so did my wallet! Don't get me wrong, I love my luon but I really do believe that it has its time and place.

I would say, for that time in my life, it did work perfectly. But you know what, it was working for alot of people in Kelowna and I was starting to feel a bit droid-like wearing the same as everyone else. I was better than lulu on a day-to-day basis and a few years ago, I really started working on re-finding my own style. That was the hard part - where to start and then what to wear so as not to look like I was trying too hard and ... while still being at home with the kids and doing kid stuff. Mission impossible and I was going in!

Ok, so I think basics are amazing and can really make you feel like a million bucks. My fav style muse is Jennifer Aniston. Yes, she's Hollywood-cute and successful and she rocks the simplest of things - denim and a great tank (C'est Moi makes a great bamboo one that is in-store now). Throw on a scarf and you my friend, have the look that I think is super adorable and super doable.

Your denim speaks volumes. They will be comfortable, casual, hug your body in all the right spots and of course, oh-so-sexy. No matter how many fab accessories you might have, your best-fitting pair of jeans is quite often the item you treasure (and wear) more than anything else coveted in your closet. There are so many styles to choose from and it can be confusing. Warning: You might have to try on a trunkload to find your perfect pair but when you find them, you'll hear singing! I have a few favs, for sure, but my go-to denim happens to be found at fresh. Miss Me is a premium denim and it just really works. It's got a little bling on the back and some styles have more than others. The craftsmanship is detailed and the fit is pretty wonderful. You just have to try them on.

If a tank is not working for you, a cute top is your answer. There are so many to choose from but really, it's a matter of what is going to work for you and your lifestyle. No more zipper'd jackets for you! The colours are warm this season and we are starting to see a lot of blush for fall which is soft and pretty and reminds me of ballet dancers. Some great styles under In Store Right Now.

Seriously, you are already cute but you are going to be so much cuter when you feel beautiful and get into some great basics. If it's not Jennifer who is your style muse, no worries! Your cute self is in there and on any given day - know that you can do better than luon!
